Course Description

This six-week online course focuses on still life with a twist. Discover the ambiguity of shapes and textures and notice how objects become strange with scrutiny. Engage with layered symbolism and rich colour. Artist Liane Lang takes you on an exploration of historical and contemporary still life painting, including its role in veiling the great taboos of love, death and desire. 

Participants can follow step-by-step or work independently from reference images. Each week Liane will introduce a different subject and new acrylic painting technique. These include colour mixing and tinting; wet on wet; and tonal range. Motifs include flowers, fruit, machinery and everyday objects. 

This practical course is encouraging and supportive, and available to anyone with the necessary materials, a table-top to work on and access to Zoom. Session recordings will be automatically available for one week after each session for absentees or those wishing to enjoy the class again.
