For those wishing to learn the core skills of portrait painting in acrylic and develop best practice in painting and study habits. Artist Robert Rost shares his understanding and experience of this genre and takes you step-by-step through materials, the application of colour, painting and drawing techniques, an understanding of the human head, composition and much more.
Portrait Painting in Acrylic will enable you to work and study independently in the genre of portrait painting. This practical course is ideal for beginners, is encouraging and supportive, and is available to anyone with the necessary materials, a table-top to work on and access to Zoom. Session recordings will be automatically available for the duration of the course for absentees or those wishing to enjoy the class again.

Timetable & Guidelines
| Week 1 | Introductions | Lead artist introduction to the course. An overview of study methods and how to create reference materials. |
| Week 2 | Understanding Volumes | Identifying shapes within a portrait and how to depict these on a 2D surface through drawing and painting. |
| Week 3 | Colour & Materials | An overview of acrylic paint and the benefits of using an acrylic medium. Introduction to the use of colour and colour palettes, colour mixing and colour contrasts. |
| Week 4 | Colour, Texture & Focus | Development of the use of colour. Texture and focus in portrait painting. Use of colour to create depth. Importance of grey tones, highlights and mixing skin colours. |
| Week 5 | Painting Portraits | A look at various approaches and ways of working while painting a portrait including style, point of view, storytelling and composition. |
| Week 6 | Completing a Portrait | Finishing touches such as highlights, soft edges, details and special effects as well as archiving, varnishing and presenting. Presentation of final portrait |
