Course Description

DISCOVERY courses encourage artists to discover, explore and develop new methods and motivations. Hosted by a contemporary Lead Artist, DISCOVERY courses enable participants to invigorate their practice by emphasizing experimentation in a supportive communal environment. These six-week courses are open to artists from all disciplines at any stage of their career.

PRACTICE AS DIAGRAM with Karen David explores diagramming as a way of plotting complex ideas. During the course we will access your studio practice’s critical concerns and material processes by making indexes and diagrams towards an imaginary architectural space. Capturing this information will help you view your practice as a cohesive whole and allow for more insightful understanding of your work. These diagrams might be based on your established methods or used to create a hypothetical project that explores new ways of making.

PRACTICE AS DIAGRAM includes:

  • Two-hour weekly group sessions delivered by Lead Artist
  • Presentations on contextual examples
  • Practical assignments during sessions
  • Weekly research and / or practical assignments to be completed outside of live sessions
  • Artwork feedback from Lead Artist and peer group
  • Peer group chat forum
